The three Cayman Islands, Grand Cayman (the largest), Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, are located in the western Caribbean about 150 miles south of Cuba, 460 miles south of Miami, and 167 miles northwest of Jamaica.   George Town is on the western shore of Grand Cayman.

The temperature rarely goes lower than 70°F or higher than 90°F.   The average annual humidity is around 77 percent.   Rainfall varies over the Islands and seasonally, with September receiving about 25% of the total and March getting almost none.

      Getting Around
Though not generally publicized to tourists, George Town has an excellent and very reasonably priced public transportation system.

The main terminal is adjacent to the library which is on the corner of Fort and Edwards streets -- 3 blocks from the cruise terminals.  visual directions are depicted in the pictures on this page.

The bus terminal is easy to overlook as the buses are actually vans, and without closer inspection, the terminal looks more like a parking lot.

There are 3 rows of vans -- each indicating which area of the island the buses in that row travel to.  An English speaking attendant is available in the information booth at the entrance to answer any questions.  The buses leave every 15 minutes -- even if there is only 1 passenger.   Payment is made directly to the bus driver.

The bus marking/color indicates the "line" and rate.  You can ask the driver to stop anywhere along the route.  When returning, simply flag down the next bus if you are not at a designated stop along that line.   Rates are roundtrip per person US dollars.

  2  (green) $5: WB -- Westbound
3  (blue) $9: BT, NS, EE -- North, South & East parts of island
