History:
Salerno is located just south of Naples in the Bay of Salerno and is the
largest city on the Amalfi Coast. It was established by the Romans in 194 BC
after wars with Hannibal. The natural harbor has facilitated trade for 2
centuries and was used as a landing site by allied forces in WWII.
Salerno is a popular destination for travellers to Pompeii.
